What you can find out in our website

Are macaws and cockatoos good pets?

Yes both macaws and cockatoos are brilliant pets IF their needs are taken into account. One of the most important needs is COMPANIONSHIP. The photo shows our first macaw Amber with her friend Clacks our little sun conure. We bought Clacks specially for Amber so that she would NEVER be alone. For other important needs we will be adding a link here very soon.

What cages do macaws and cockatoos need?

Obviously the bigger the better! Birds love flying and big parrots like macaws need aviaries to be long enough for them to fly. In the photo our macaws are flying in a cage about 25m long, 3m wide and with a pitched roof 2.4m at its lowest. Even pet birds should have a place to go outside to get some sun and walk on ground and preferably fly if their feathers have not been cut. Some people's macaws and other parrots fly free outside and come back when called.

Are macaws and cockatoos destructive?

Macaws can do a lot of damage because they are very busy birds. In the photo our chick Nutt made a hole in the book I was reading while he was busy as my hairdresser! Our young macaws have chewed furniture, electrical wires, and cement between the bricks of our house!
